Steve Austin Praises NXT Takeover, Says Montez Ford Could Be WWE Champion Some Day, Candice vs Io Shirai
WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin took a second on the latest edition of his podcast, The Steve Austin Show, to discuss the recent NXT Takeover: Toronto special at Scotiabank Arena, and had nothing but incredibly positive things to say about the show.
“I saw the opening match – the Street Profits vs. Undisputed Era for the tag team championships for NXT, and that was a pretty damn good match. Man, I tell you what, the Street Profits. Great chemistry together. Those guys are very charismatic. I think both of those guys, when they get a little further in to their career – you can keep them as a tag team, but you could separate those guys, and you have two very strong guys that could have real long, illustrious singles careers. That’s how much I thought about their potential. … Montez Ford, I think he’s about 6’4″ they said. I’ve seen these guys a couple of times in some backstage skits. Very charismatic. That dude could have a world championship run down the line if he keeps at it. And by the same token, so could Angelo Dawkins.”
Austin also had some great things to say about the singles match between Io Shirai and Candice LeRae after a hot program between the two over the past month or so.
“The one that really jumped off my chart was Io Shirai vs. Candice LeRae. Man, those two women ripped it up. That’s the first time I’ve seen Io work, and I’ve been following Candice a little bit, and she can work her ass off. I tell you man, when Io turned on her … when she turned heel and went out there, her execution, her attitude in that ring, the way she snaps her moves; man, some of the stuff she does is just lights-out impactful. I don’t want to say dangerous, but she’s so good at it. Candice was an all-star as well. She’s kind of like a white-meat, girl-next-door babyface, and full of fire, and was the exact equal to Io’s heel work. Phenomenal match. Love the finish. Those two women put on a badass show.”
