Hood, Brenham, Marshall selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Anna Hood of Locust Fork (Ala.) High School, Brenham (Texas) High School’s Kathryn Marshall and Mya Villareal of North Valley Military Institute (Granada Hills, Calif.) were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played the week of Feb. 26-March 4.

South Region
Hood, a senior, was a perfect 7-for-7 with three home runs, two doubles, eight RBI and four runs scored in her first two games of the season. Additionally, she slugged 2.571 and recorded a 1.000 on-base percentage. In the season opener, Hood was four-of-four at the dish, doubling twice, homering and knocking in five runs against Fultondale. Against Calera, she homered twice, which contributed to all three runs in a 3-1 victory. She went 3-for-3 and scored twice in the win.

South Central Region
Brenham, who hit .846 (12-for-15) with six home runs, 14 RBI and nine runs scored, led Brenham to a 5-1 week. She opened her week going 3-for-3 against Magnolia West with two doubles, a home run and followed that with a three long balls, five RBI and three runs scored in a 8-1 victory over Round Rock. The junior added home runs against Midland Lee and Aledo, knocking in four runs against the latter Bearcats.

West Region
Villareal slugged her way to the weekly honor, launching three grand slams and four home runs overall with 15 RBI, nine runs and an astronomical 2.625 slugging percentage. Against Triumph Charter, she was 4-for-5 with three home runs, two of which were grand slams, nine RBI and four runs scored in a 19-11 victory. Villareal continued her offensive onslaught, going 3-for-3 with a triple, grand slam, six RBI and five runs scored in a 16-13 win against Sun Valley.

MaxPreps.com, the official high school statistical provider of the NFCA, provides all statistics for the NFCA High School Player of the Week award. To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete’s game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week’s award.

The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season with a player from each of five separate high school regions is selected. During the fall campaign, one representative is chosen from the participating regions.
