NAIA announces week 7 Player & Pitcher of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Caroline Brown of Purdue Northwest (Ind.) has been named the final NAIA National Softball Pitcher of the Week and Tara Moates of Oregon Tech has been named the final NAIA National Softball Player of the Week. Brown and Moates were selected based on their performances from April 24 – 30, and were chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Caroline Brown, Purdue Northwest (Ind.)
Sr., P, Minooka, Ill.
• Brown earned three wins, posting a 0.00 ERA against Roosevelt (Ill.), Trinity Christian (Ill.) and WVU Tech (W. Va.). She tossed 21.0 innings, allowing 13 hits, while recording five strikeouts and one walk on the week. Against WVU Tech, Brown recorded two strikeouts and allowed two hits in seven innings pitched. She held her opponents to a .186 batting average and did not allow an extra base hit on the week. She boasts a 14-8 overall record with a 1.54 ERA on the season.
Softball Player of the Week
Tara Moates, Oregon Tech
Jr. OF, Klamath Falls, Ore.
Keying her team to a 4-0 series sweep against Northwest (Wash.), Moates hit .909 (10-for-11) with 13 RBI and 11 runs scored. In game one of the series, she collected four hits, two doubles and two home runs, and knocked in a school-record nine runs. For the series, Moates registered four doubles and three long balls, including a grand slam, which attributed to her astounding 2.091 slugging percentage. She currently ranks sixth in the NAIA in doubles per game (0.455) and seventh in total bases per game (2.82).
