NH Motorcycle Crash Victims Were JarHeads Marine Bikers

CONCORD, NH — A multi-agency investigation is underway trying to find out why a pickup truck from Massachusetts, hauling a vehicle transport trailer, crashed into 10 motorcycles in Randolph on June 21, 2019, taking the lives of seven. The bikers – part of the JarHeads Semper Fi Motorcycle Club – were in the area attending a reunion, according to acting-Attorney General Jane Young. Officials also identified the driver of the truck – Volodoymyr Zhukovskyy, 23, of West Springfield, MA – who was working for Westfield Transportation at the time of the accident, according to Coos County Attorney John McCormick.

Officials were mum about any information concerning the investigation, whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved, whether there was any other motive for the crash, or any other details about the investigation. Officials would also not comment if Zhukovskyy was in custody, at-large, or cooperating with the investigation.

Col. Christopher Wagner of the New Hampshire State Police stated that 10 motorcycles were involved in the crash. Seven people were killed. One patient was med-flighted out of the state for treatment and remains hospitalized while two were treated and released from local hospitals.

The state police used a drone to oversee the crash scene and gather “all evidence possible,” Wagner stated.

“This investigation is not over,” he added. “It’s in the beginning stages. It’s going to be a very lengthy investigation. We want to make sure that we cover all the bases.”

Wagner added that his investigators called it one of the worst scenes they have ever witnessed.

Young, Wagner, and Gov. Chris Sununu, R-NH, all asked for the public and press to allow the victims’ families and friends privacy during this difficult time.

“Please consider the sensitivity of the victims and their families and the survivors,” Sununu said. “The families and those affected truly deserve their privacy.”

Autopsies are underway on the victims of the crash, Young stated. Their names are expected to be released Sunday. Young said officials had not been able to reach several families.

According to reports, members of the club had left their bed and breakfast where they were staying and were heading to an event at the American Legion. A black 2016 Dodge 2500 pickup truck with an attached vehicle hauler trailer then crashed into the motorcycles, veered off to the side of the road, and burst into flames.

Officials are looking for any information about the truck or its driver before the crash occurred, including pictures or video. Anyone with information should contact NHSP at 603-271-3636.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
