Is HBK Writing NXT? Mysterio Talks Retirement, ROH Star at Raw
WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels has become fully involved in the NXT brand over the past few months. It is well known that Michaels now works as a trainer in the WWE Performance Center, but that is not where his duties end for NXT. During an appearance on the E&C Pod of Awesomeness podcast hosted by Edge and Christian, Michaels revealed that he is now completely working behind the scenes for NXT. After initially appearing for the job for just a few weeks, Michaels said that he is now working for the developmental brand “full scale,” and that he is even helping out with writing NXT. NXT has become a hot brand in 2018, so perhaps all of the former pro wrestler’s hard work is indeed paying off.
“To [Triple H] and I, clearly, [NXT] is his baby, but I mean, I’m all in. Yeah, they’ve got me hook, line, and sinker.” Michaels said before adding, “I’m so far in, there’s no way I’m getting out and I have no desire to get out because it’s a blast. It really is.”
After spending years away from the company, Rey Mysterio returned to WWE full time a few weeks ago, and he is now back on the WWE roster. However, Mysterio has had a long career in the wrestling industry, and as such, it appears that he does have plans to retire from the business soon. While discussing his career during an interview on Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory podcast, Mysterio was asked about possibly winding down his time in the wing. Unfortunately for fans, Mysterio stated that he believes that he is in the final stages of his wrestling career. Rey also noted that he does not see himself competing for another five years. Mysterio may be back in WWE now, enjoy the former world champion’s time in the ring while is lasts.
“I’m definitely getting close to shutting down sometime in the next couple of years. I definitely don’t see myself going past five years. That’s without a doubt, you know? And I just wouldn’t want to do it for the sake of my body and what I’ve gone through.” Mysterio said.
The competition from Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling, and New Japan Pro Wrestling are only set to intensify for WWE in 2019. As a result, the company is said to be aggressively pursuing talent at the moment for the NXT brand. Interestingly, one ROH competitor linked with possibly joining the company attended last night’s Raw show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. According to PWInsider, ROH’s Silas Young was sitting ringside for Raw, but there is no word on whether or not he was brought backstage at any point during the show. Names such as Trevor Lee and ACH are said to be starting their WWE runs in January of 2019. Young’s current deal with ROH will reportedly be coming to an end within the next few weeks.
