André Gomes describes Ligue 1 as a mix of the Premier League and La Liga
Speaking to L’Équipe, Everton loanee André Gomes (29) has described Ligue 1 as a mix between the Premier League and Ligue 1.
Gomes is currently on a season-long loan at Lille from Everton. Les Dogues are on a three-game winning run in Ligue 1, their best since the start of the season. Last weekend’s 4-3 victory against AS Monaco allowed Paulo Fonseca’s side to leapfrog Philippe Clement’s men into sixth position.
In an interview with L’Équipe, the former Barcelona midfielder spoke glowingly of the quality of his new domestic division. “It is a mix between the Premier League and La Liga. It is a very good surprise, to be honest, and don’t take that the wrong way. i have played against French teams in the past, both in pre-season and in the Champions League, but I haven’t had the experience that I’m currently having,” he said.
“Being here is super. I am very happy. It is a very, very good surprise. The level is very high, and the intensity too. There are lots of good players and teams. Lots of teams are fighting at the top of the table. It is competitive. It is a mixture of quality and intensity, a mixture of the Premier League and La Liga.”
