Asuka & Kairi Sane Earn WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match
The IIconics might be in a bit of trouble…
Asuka and Kairi Sane defeated the champs in a non-title match this Friday at a WWE Live event held at historic Ryogoku Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The stipulation headed into the bout was that if the Kabuki Warriors won, they would receive a future opportunity at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.
While this has not been confirmed, the most obvious location for that title match to take place would be the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view taking place in just over two weeks’ time.
Of course, we could also see it onĀ Smackdown Live, as the titles have not been presented as a major priority for the company as of late. They were not defended at Stomping Grounds this past week, nor were they defended at Superstar Showdown (for obvious reasons) earlier this month, or at Money in the Bank in May.
The last time the Women’s Tag Team Championships were defended on pay-per-view was WrestleMania 35, when The IIconics defeated Bayley and Sasha Banks in a Fatal 4-Way tag team match to win the titles. It has been nearly three months since that match.
