Backstage News & Rumor Killers on the Future of WWE PPV & NXT/205 Live Possibly Airing on Weekly TV

Ever since news broke of WWE’s new massive deals with NBC Universal and Fox for the future of Raw and Smackdown Live, respectively, there has been a ton of speculation and rumor floating around the internet regarding the future of the company’s other endeavors like monthly pay-per-view, 205 Live and NXT.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, at this point there have been NO negotiations to begin airing the monthly WWE pay-per-views on network television in the form of Sunday night specials – that goes for both Fox and NBCU with the USA Network.

We can also officially squash the rumor going around that NXT might be airing on FS1 as an added bonus to the new deal. Right now, it’s not even being discussed, and was definitely not a part of the negotiations when the deal was being drawn up. As reported, Fox will be airing a one-hour studio show on FS1 each week, similar to UFC Tonight.

The reason all this rampant speculation has risen is largely due to the colossal amount of money being spent by Fox and NBCU for the distribution rights of Raw and Smackdown. For WWE, that means every episode of television going forward – once the new deals officially go into play – will become more valuable than any monthly pay-per-view outside of WrestleMania, SummerSlam and the Royal Rumble.

It seems like they’ll be sticking with the traditional pay-per-view format going forward, largely out of respect to the history of the business and how it’s operated for decades now, but the incentive for them to get as much content on TV and really make those shows must-see is now bigger than ever by a wide, wide margin.
