Dereliction Of Duty: Doctors Operate Wrong Leg Of An Odisha Patient Who Went For Wound Treatment
Last year a shocking incident of medical negligence was reported from Florida where a US surgeon removed a patient’s kidney thinking it is a tumour. Now, this dereliction of duty has even found its way to India.
Hindustan Times reported that a Dalit woman from Odisha had complained that doctors operated her on her right leg instead of the left at Anandpur sub-divisional hospital. Mitarani Jena of Khabil village had gone to a sub-divisional hospital to get a wound treated on her left leg.
The doctor then checked her condition and instructed one of the nurses to dress the wound. However, the staff allegedly operated the wrong leg of the patient. The woman who is in her 40s was given anaesthesia and when she woke up, she was shocked to find out that she had been treated on the wrong leg.
