Farm Rio Review – What is Farm Rio?!
Farm Rio is a Brazilian clothing line that is so darn delightful I had to do a post on it! But before getting into my Farm Rio review, I want to start by addressing the elephant in the room. Many of you are looking at the bold vacay prints and styles and asking yourself, “Where am I gonna wear this outside of a tropical resort?” My answer: lots of places!
Farm Rio is more than vacation wear. You can wear it to brunch, BBQs, a pool party, happy hour, or any beach event. I recently wore a Farm Rio dress to a wine bar, and everyone was complimenting me, which is what happens whenever I wear any Farm Rio piece.
Although Farm Rio is the epitome of summer with their bright colors and tropical patterns, they do make pieces that work year-round. I wore one of their dresses for a fresh holiday look in December, and often wear their puffer jackets to add a pop of print and color to a monochrome look.
Still, many people struggle to find the right Farm Rio pieces for them, which is why I wanted to put together an official Farm Rio review. They make some of the most treasured pieces ever, but they also make items that are too bold, stiff, or itchy.

Farm Rio Review: What To Get
Farm Rio’s pieces have always been beautiful, but years ago, many of their garments were stiff, itchy, and/or ill-fitting — you really had to know what to get. These days, Farm Rio is still bold and beautiful, but they are seriously honing in on designs that flatter the body and the fabrics are feeling great! As of today, here is what you should absolutely get when shopping Farm Rio:
-
Dresses, dresses, and more dresses: They have so many beautifully printed dresses with a fabulous fit or a refreshing flow to them.
-
Puffer Jackets: I am OBSESSED with their puffer jackets. It appears they only sell them in winter, so when you see one you like GET IT. I have two and wear them constantly. I can’t go anywhere without being stopped by someone complimenting my jacket. For winter 2024, their jackets ran two sizes too big. I wore a size xxs in their puffer jackets as a size 4/6 woman.
-
Graphic Tees: Their graphic tees are fun and on-trend for that oversized look.
Farm Rio Review: What To Skip
This line isn’t the best for super curvy or busty women. The lack of stretch in the dresses is an issue for voluptuous bodies and even the slightly more stretchy graphic tees are not flattering for curves because they have high necks. (High necks can add weight if you are busty.) Overall, I also recommend skipping their:
- Shorts: Unfortunately, I have yet to put on a Farm Rio short that is comfortable or flattering. I look forward to the day they make a fun short set that works!
- Wool-based pieces, like sweaters: They just never feel great on my skin.
Where to Buy Farm Rio
You can order Farm Rio online through its own website. In the US, they offer free shipping on purchases over $50 and free returns and exchanges, which has been a seamless experience for me and my clients every time. Plus, the packaging is so darn charming and thoughtful.
They also have physical US stores in NYC, Miami, and Venice, CA, as well as internationally in Europe and Brazil.
A growing number of retailers also carry Farm Rio, such as Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Saks 5th Avenue, ShopBop, and Net-A-Porter. A lot of those stores have unique collaborations with the brand so they often offer different, exclusive designs. Farm Rio also regularly partners with brands like Adidas and Sézane.

The History of Farm Rio
In case you’re wondering about the brand after seeing all of these fabulous dresses and vibrant prints, let me share some of its history with you… Farm Rio was launched in 1997 as a 40-square-foot booth at a local fashion market in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Co-founder Katia Barros was an accountant who wanted to create clothes that embodied the vibrancy and creative spirit of Rio, so she teamed up with her friend Marcello Bastos to launch a collection. Though Farm Rio became popular throughout Brazil early on, it’s only recently become available in the U.S. According to Vogue, the company considered expanding abroad in 2010, but decided to develop an online presence in Brazil instead. It wasn’t until 2016 that Farm Rio brought its designs to the US via a partnership with Anthropologie. Finally, in 2019, it launched its US retail website and opened its flagship store in NYC.
And on top of all of the delightful prints and patterns that first drew my attention, Farm Rio has also been topping the lists of sustainable fashion companies, and recently became a certified B-Corp — you know I love to see that! They’ve partnered with One Tree Planted to plant a tree for every purchase made, with the goal of helping with reforestation efforts in the Amazon rainforest and other places. “Nature has always been our home and we’re passionate about taking impactful steps to ensure it will keep inspiring new generations with all its power and diversity,” Barros said in an interview with Forbes. They’ve also been trying to use more sustainable fibers in their clothes and they’ve partnered with an indigenous group in Brazil, the Yawanawa, to support their handicraft tradition.

Best of Farm Rio From Years Past
I originally wrote this post a few years ago when I first discovered the brand. I’ve left these photos below for nostalgic purposes. Whenever I update older posts, I love to hold on to a collection of images as a bit of a time capsule so we can watch how our style evolves.
