LaGrange wins Texas 4A title and captures top spot
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — LaGrange defeated North Lamar (Paris, Texas) to capture its second state 4A title in three years. With the 8-1 win, the Leopards finished their 2016 campaign with a 41-2 record and the top spot on the USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25. Senior Briana Angel was named the game’s MVP after she went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and scored two runs.
Grand Terrace (Calif.) defeated Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.) 5-2 to capture the CIF Division 3 Southern Section Championship and moved up three spots to finish the year at No. 2 on the Super 25.
Keller (Texas) enters the poll at No. 12 after defeating previously ranked Atascocita (Humble, Texas) and Pearland (Texas) to win the Texas 6A Championship. The win gave Keller its third state title and its first in 10 years.
Mission Viejo (Calif.) battled back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Valley View (Moreno Valley, Calif.) 9-6 and claim the CIF South Section title. This is the Diablos’ second title in three seasons.
This is the final USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25 of the 2016 season.
State rankings submitted by NFCA member coaches are used to help compile the USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25. Records for this week’s poll include all games played through June 6.
