Netflix Acquires Zac Efron’s Ted Bundy Movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile
Netflix is officially getting rights to the Ted Bundy film starring Zac Efron – Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, reported by THR.
After a bidding war with STX and Lionsgate during the end of Sundance Film Festival, the deal reportedly came in at $9 million, and will include U.S. rights and some international territories.
Netflix acquiring the rights was not much of a shock, as the director, Oscar-nominated Joe Berlinger, already has the docuseries about Ted Bundy on the streaming platform – Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.
The film accounts the crimes of the 1970s’ serial killer, Ted Bundy, specifically from the point of view of his then girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who pushed away the truth about him for years.
The cast includes Zac Efron as Bundy, Lily Collins portraying Kloepfer, Haley Joel Osment, Kaya Scodelario, John Malkovich, and Jim Parsons.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is set to have an awards-season theatrical run sometime in fall of 2019.
Netflix’s deal with the film marked their first buy of a narrative feature at 2019’s Sundance. They also acquired documentaries, including U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign series, Knock Down the House, and American Factory.

Efron has been attached to the film since 2017, after he held comedy roles for the past several years and Metallica frontman, James Hetfield, was cast in 2018 as the cop who would ultimately catch Ted Bundy.
