New champions crowned at NJPW Dominion

New champions crowned at NJPW Dominion

Three of NJPW’s titles changed hands tonight at Dominion.

EVIL shocked the world by pinning Tetsuya Naito to win both the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles for the first time. The finish came when a man in a BUSHI mask came out, helped Naito to his feet then choked him with a metal chain. As the referee was busy with the masked man, EVIL grabbed Naito and stomped him square in the groin. He then planted Naito with the Everything is Evil STO to win both titles.

Naito had held the Intercontinental title for 190 days, pinning Jay White on January 4. He won the IWGP Heavyweight title the following day, defeating Kazuchika Okada.

After the match, the masked man revealed himself to be Dick Togo. Both EVIL and Togo continued to attack Naito until Hiromu Takahashi came out for the save. Takahashi challenged EVIL for both championships. EVIL had no reply initially, but later in a backstage interview said he would accept the challenge.

Zack Sabre Jr. and Taichi also emerged victorious tonight, defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kota Ibushi for the IWGP Tag Team titles. The former champions had held the belts for 142 days, originally winning them at New Japan Road on February 21.

It was a back and forth match, ending when Taichi smacked Tanahashi with a jumping high kick followed by a Zack Driver from by Sabre, who covered Tanahashi to win the titles.
