Official | Lyon sell Aldo Kalulu to FC Basel for €2.1m
Swiss giant FC Basel has continued its promising transfer window with the signing of French winger Aldo Kalulu from Olympique Lyonnais. Kalulu should pair well in attack with Basel’s other new man Dimitri Oberlin, who has joined the Swiss side permanently after an encouraging loan spell with the club last season. The fee paid by Basel for the rights to Kalulu is reported to be €2.1m, and the winger’s contract with his new club runs until 2021.

A product of Lyon’s incredible academy, Kalulu was destined for great things at a very young age. While developing with Les Gones the right-winger made three appearances for France’s U18 side, and eventually earned a spot with the first team after impressing with the reserves. Kalulu made his first appearance in Ligue 1 at the age of 19 and scored his first league goal just weeks later.
The Lyon native’s most recent action was seen in Ligue 2, wearing the colours of FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. Kalulu’s ability was on show at the Stade Auguste Bonal, where he quickly established himself as a key part of Sochaux’s 11. Often playing as an attacking right-winger in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Kalulu often used his pace and agility to score 11 goals and provide three assists in league play.
Joining FC Basel is a “delight” and “honour” for Kalulu, who went on to say that he is “impatient to start this new adventure and to give everything for these colours.”
