Rey Mysterio expected to re-sign with WWE, AEW makes offer

Rey Mysterio expected to re-sign with WWE, AEW makes offer

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Rey Mysterio is expected to stay with WWE but hasn’t confirmed a contract has been officially signed yet.

Meltzer reported that AEW also made an offer that equaled WWE’s per-match offer, but that WWE’s offer was higher because it included more dates. Meltzer didn’t have the length of the expected new contract but that it would be “considerably longer than the previous deal (18 months), but not the five- ears or longer deals that WWE has tried to get everyone on.”

The future of Mysterio’s son, Dominik, was a big part of the decision and the 23-year-old will make his WWE in-ring debut at SummerSlam against Seth Rollins. Rey is out of action in storyline due to having his eyeball ripped out by Rollins at WWE Extreme Rules, protecting the company if he didn’t re-sign.

Meltzer reported a month ago that the 45-year-old Mysterio was working without a contract in WWE. During his three-year break from WWE from 2015-2018, Mysterio worked for Lucha Underground, New Japan Pro Wrestling, AAA, and appeared in the main event of the All In pay-per-view.

Also in the newsletter, Meltzer reported Mysterio would be appearing at the Northeast Wrestling 25th Anniversary show in Poughkeepsie, NY, which is still awaiting an announced date. He said if WWE hadn’t signed Mysterio at that point, he had agreed to wrestle.
