SC Directs High Courts To Start Trying 4,122 Pending Criminal Cases Against MPs And MLAs

Indian politicians have often been known for their gloomy past record that many a time involves criminal complaints and assaults. The Supreme court of India has been provided with recent data in which it was disclosed that close to 4,000 cases against MLAs and MPs were pending.

The bench which is being headed by current Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi was supposed to take up this issue on Tuesday where 4,122 cases, some which have been pending since the last three decades and the court is now seeking detailed data on it.

Senior advocate Vijay Hansaria who is assisting the court as amicus curiae in the matter along with advocate Sneha Kalita filed the data received from states and high courts and submitted it to the apex court.
